The abdominoplasty, otherwise known as a tummy tuck, is a procedure that reshapes the stomach and abdomen area to give a flatter, smoother profile, correcting any “tummy bulges” that are resistant to diet or exercise. These day’s it’s a straightforward procedure which can make a tremendous difference to your confidence and quality of life.

Elena prides herself on taking the time to truly understand a patient’s aims and discussing what result will work best given the patient’s body shape and size. Although good results are expected, the body is not symmetric and almost everyone has some degree of unevenness, which may not be recognized in advance. The more realistic your expectations as to results, the better your results will be in your eye. Elena will restore the shape of your tummy by removing the excess skin and fat, then tightening the deep tissue or fascia overlying the muscles. For most patients, between 30-50% of the abdominal skin can be removed, eradicating any stretch marks that had been present on that skin. She will also reshape your belly button. Your scar will be well hidden by your underwear. There are several cosmetic surgery techniques she can offer and making the correct choice for you is very important. It is a decision which you will make together after a long conversation and examination in the clinic.
Typically, abdominoplasty patients are able to stop medication in about a week, stand straight in 2-4 weeks, begin driving in 4-6 weeks, begin exercises in 8-12 weeks, be back to most all activities 2 months. Elena will talk you through all the intricacies of the surgery, offering advice on how best to prepare and how to look after yourself during the recovery period.The visibility of your scars will depend on the technique used and on the biological response of your body to surgery and healing. Generally, the scars after this type of surgery are almost invisible by the end of the year. Patients can benefit from taking four-six weeks off work, and after you have seen Ms Prousskaia for your four weeks follow up you can discuss beginning other activities.
Abdominoplasty procedure helps to remove skin and fat excess from abdominal areas and does help to reduce certain excess of skin & weight. However if you are in a process of losing weight it is highly recommendable to lose all the weight you are planning to loose in order to achieve best possible result with your tummy tuck. In patients with high body mass index tummy tuck may not provide desired result and complications rate is higher. Therefore Ms Prousskaia would normally recommend to the patient to complete weight loose journey prior to surgery and to be in a stable weight for at least 6-12 months prior to tummy tuck surgery.
It is recommendable to fully recover after pregnancy prior to having abdominoplasty at least a year post pregnancy. Also its important to consider that you may not be able to lift heavy weight including baby up to 9 months after abdominoplasty surgery.
That is something that your surgeon will advise you after examination as it depends on several factors, including amount of tissue that needs removal and if muscle repair is required.
Tightening of the Fascia is done with permanent sutures. The removed skin and fat excess will not come back unless you gain significant amount of weight.
