For women who’ve had a breast removed or partially removed, plastic surgery offers a chance to regain your natural figure. It’s no longer necessary to live with unsightly scars or with an impacted self-image: state of the art breast reconstruction techniques offer surgeons the ability to completely restore your natural silhouette. Here at the Elena Prousskaia Clinic we offer a range of options for those seeking breast reconstruction after masectomy or lumpectomy. Please come in for an informal discussion and we’ll be happy to talk you through how we might help.
There are many different methods of breast reconstruction. The option considered a “gold standard of breast reconstruction” is known as Autologous Breast Reconstruction or DIEP (tissue from tummy) or TUG (tissue from thigh) flaps. Useing your own tissue from tummy, thighs or back can give you a softer and more natural looking breast. Some patients can opt for an Implant or Tissue Expander which offers a faster recovery and a shorter stay in hospital. We offer both options. Elena will discuss with you, which makes sense for your body and situation. For those who choose the implant/expander option, it is important to choose the right type of implant for you and Elena will guide you in making that decision. Elena only uses high quality implants, considered the best in the market (Allergan and Mentor) and has never used PIP implants in her practice.
The length of your hospital stay depends on the type of operation and how your recovery progresses. If you’ve had implants, the average length of hospitalization is one to two days. Flap procedures require a stay of five to six days. Full recovery can take a lot longer: You should be up and around in 6 to 8 weeks.
Elena will talk you through all the necessary pre-surgery investigations, as well as the after-care required. She will also fully explain the risks associated with the procedure. We will only go ahead with the reconstruction operation once you are completely ready and happy with the choice we have made together.
As one of the few female plastic surgeons in the UK, Elena brings a distinctly feminine empathy and skill to the process of helping rebuild a woman’s body after the stress of masectomy. Trained by UK and international most renowned fellowships in Breast Reconstruction and Breast Oncology, Elena also brings a wealth of experience, a sense of artistry, and a calm professionalism to all her work. The Elena Prousskaia Clinic also prides itself on the quality of its aftercare: we will make every effort to ensure you’re informed, prepared and well looked after throughout the whole procedure.
