About This Treatment

Rhinoplasty is available in Bristol with world leading cosmetic surgeon Elena Prousskaia.

The surgery – rhinoplasty or nose reshaping as it is also known – is one of the most popular procedures but it is also one where it is essential to find a surgeon who can produce results that look natural, leaving a nose perfectly proportioned with the rest of the face.

In this page we will talk more about rhinoplasty and also the superb locations where this surgery is available in Bristol, but first a few words on the surgeon Elena Prousskaia.

Choosing a hugely experienced and skilled surgeon is essential – regardless of whether or not you end up choosing Elena, you need someone with a superb CV, proven experience and a patient-first ethos.

Elena has been a cosmetic surgeon for approaching 20 years. She trained for eight year in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and then embarked on Fellowships around the globe at some of the leading centres for plastic and cosmetic surgery – of course with rhinoplasty, one of the most common procedures, chief among her experience.

Elena spent a three year Fellowship at the renowned Guys and St Thomas’ in London and then held Fellowships in Italy, Barcelona, India and the University Hospital in Tokyo, learning the very latest techniques./

She is an award winning cosmetic surgeon and one who has been published in medical journals.

But just as important as the Fellowships and awards is the fact that independent reviews for Elena speak of her ability and patient-first focus. Across independent review sites such as Google and Iwantgreatcare she has universal five-star reviews – please take the time to read through some of the impartial reviews.

As Elena says:

A good surgical outcome is not the only thing that matters. Everything that you do and say to a patient has to come from your heart.

Rhinoplasty Bristol – The Process

This approach is seen when a patient is considering rhinoplasty in Bristol.

The process would start with a detailed and lengthy consultation, at which Elena would take the time to discuss the surgery, the potential results and also outline the recovery process.

After this, there would usually be a second consultation at a later date, this allowing the would-be patient to ask any follow-up questions that might have occurred to them, the pause also allowing people to consider whether surgery is truly what they want.

Rhinoplasty is a popular procedure and it is one where Elena’s approach is to make the results natural looking, cosmetic surgery where the end result does not look as if there has been obvious cosmetic surgery. The results should look natural, leaving a nose that is well proportioned and fits with the rest of the face.

Being realistic and open about the procedure is also key. Rhinoplasty is surgery that takes a while to produce the final results – there can be visible swelling for months and it might be up to a year until the final true results have completely set in. It is also a procedure where the healing process means that it is impossible to predict the finished results with complete certainty as the internal scarring can alter the result achieved in surgery.

This means that the skill and experience of the surgeon are crucial, that ability and knowledge to be able to tell with as much confidence as possible how the surgery will ultimately look.

The consultation would also run through the two possible types of surgery – one leaving a small scar at the base of the central partition, the other with all scarring internally. Which is the best approach will vary.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are The Risks Of Rhinoplasty Surgery?

Any surgical treatment involves certain risks. It is important that you understand all the risks associated with the rhinoplasty procedure. Your decision to have this operation should be based on your careful evaluation of all the possible risks and the potential benefits. Most patients undergoing this surgery do not experience complications. However, you should discuss all possible risks and your tolerance of complications with your consultant plastic surgeon, Miss Prousskaia, in order to make sure that you fully understand the implications and consequences of having a rhinoplasty. Elena will provide you with further information with the risks and provide you with a detailed consent form during your consultations. This will help you to minimise the risks.

What is the Recovery For Rhinoplasty?

During your pre-operative consultations, Elena will talk you through all the intricacies of the surgery, offering advice on how best to prepare and how to look after yourself during the recovery period. Swelling may increase in the first three to four days before subsiding and will vary patient-to-patient. Sleep propped up in bed with extra pillows for the first week to help reduce the swelling faster. Most bruising and discolouration should resolve over the first two weeks. Make up can usually be applied ten days to two weeks after surgery depending on your recovery period, this will need to be checked with Elena Prousskaia. Your splint will be removed after 1 week and your nose will be numb following surgery, this is normal and will subside over the coming weeks to months. You can resume normal activities 7 days after surgery but you should avoid vigorous activities or contact sports for a period of 4-6 months which is the time that the nasal bone needs to heal. During this time you should also avoid crowded areas in case someone accidentally hits you on the nose which could put your nose out of shape.

Am I A Candidate For Rhinoplasty?

In general, rhinoplasty candidates usually meet the final criteria: Healthy patients with no serious medical conditions or illnesses. Patients who do not smoke or have shown that they can stop smoking for a prolonged period of time. Patients who have realistic aesthetic goals. Most rhinoplasty patients are between 18 and 50 years old. Age matters because your face and nose don’t stop developing until your late teens or even later. If you’re too young now, you may become a good candidate in a few years.

Will I Have Visible Scars?

Aesthetic nose surgery, or rhinoplasty, is a procedure which, to many patients’ pleasant surprise, leaves very little scarring or even no visible scarring in some cases.  There are two approaches when performing the operation. A closed approach rhinoplasty is one where the incisions are placed inside the nostrils and scars are all hidden internally.  The other approach is called an open rhinoplasty where, in addition to the internal incisions, an additional cut is made across a relatively well-hidden part of the columella (the central partition of the nose). There will therefore be a very small external scar on the columella. This scar tends to fade well with time.

Will It Effect My Breathing?

Breathing through your nose after rhinoplasty tends to become easier as early as one week after surgery. Nasal breathing will improve over the following weeks and will generally feel back to normal by one to two months after surgery.

What Is The Cost Of This Procedure?

How Long Does Rhinoplasty Surgery Take?

The length of the operation usually takes up to 5 hours however will vary depending on the complexity of each individual case. You will stay in the hospital overnight with packs inside your nostrils and these will be removed the next morning before you are discharged. The nasal splint will be removed at your first follow up visit in one week by Elena Prousskaia.

Can I Smoke Or Vape Before My Surgery?

Elena does not operate on patients that regularly smoke or vape. To be considered for this procedure you must refrain from smoking or vaping for 3 months before and after your surgery.
