What Does Male Breast Reduction Surgery Entail?

There are a variety of different techniques for the correction of gynaecomastia, including liposuction, excision of the skin and breast tissue, In most of cases combination of excision and liposuction will been performed. The scars will be placed in area of nipple-areola complex. The placement of scars will depend on your preference and the recommendation of your surgeon, Miss Prousskaia. Choosing the right technique is very important and it is a decision which Elena will make with you following a detailed conversation and examination. The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and will take around 1,5-2 hours. The procedure requires a stay in hospital overnight and sometimes drains are inserted to drain excess blood. You will wake up in a supportive garment.

Am I A Candidate For Male breast Reduction?

The possible reasons for you to seek surgery are: • To improve the shape of the breast.
• To correct the excess of volume and skin.

What Is The Recovery Period for Gynaecomastia?

You should avoid all sport activities, housework such as hovering, driving, dog walking for at least 4-6 weeks following surgery and any weight lifting or strenuous activities for up to 3 months following the surgery. The visibility of your scars will depend on the technique used and on the biological response of your body to surgery and healing. Generally the scars after this type of surgery are almost invisible by the end of the year. Patients can benefit from taking four weeks off work Elena will talk you through all the intricacies of the surgery, offering advice on how best to prepare and how to look after yourself during the recovery period. During your gynecomastia surgery recovery period, dressings or bandages will be applied to your incisions and an elastic bandage style support garment will be used to minimize swelling and support your new chest contour as it heals after surgery. You will also be given specific medications to apply or take orally to aid healing and reduce the potential for infection.

Can I Return To The Gym And Sports Following?

After you have seen Ms Prousskaia for your four weeks follow up you can discuss beginning a gym routine focused on lower body strength. You should avoid all very intense sporting activities for at least 3 months.
