Lymphoedema, (the severe swelling of the legs, arms, feet, hands, neck, and other areas), is a condition which affects over 200,000 people in the UK alone. Fortunately, in many cases, Lymphoedema can be effectively treated by surgery. The procedure may help to reduce the size of areas of the body affected by the condition.
Elena Prousskaia is part of a specialist lymphoedema surgical team, working alongside another experienced and dedicated consultant plastic surgeon, Mr TC Teo. Both have a special interest in the surgical treatment of lymphoedema and supermicrosurgery. Together, they can offer a full range of surgery for the different types of lymphoedema, including: lymphatico-venular bypass surgery and vascularised lymph node transfer.
Lymphoedema after surgery for breast cancer may happen after axillary lymph node clearance or even sentinel lymph node biopsy. This can happen at a time when you may already be suffering from the consequences of mastectomy. The good news is that lymphoedema surgery and breast reconstruction can usually be carried out in the same operation. We can use tissue from your tummy (DIEP) or your thighs (TUG) to rebuild your breast and lymph nodes from your groin to restore lymph nodes in your armpit. If it is not sufficient we can also perform lymphatico-venular by-passes through small incisions on your arm, forearm and hand.
Based at the renowned McIndoe Surgical Centre in East Grinstead, the Elena Prousskaia Clinic has built a reputation for itself as one of the leading cosmetic and reconstructive surgery centres in the UK. Elena’s surgical artistry, wide ranging experience and superb qualifications combined with the exemplary aftercare of her team ensure that the Clinic is in high demand both domestically and internationally.
